MILESTONES ACADEMY LEADER IN ME

Milestones Academy prepares Pre-Grade7 students for life by providing them with the essential soft skills needed for a life of effectiveness. To accomplish this, Milestones Academy believes that ALL students in our school have authentic learning and leadership opportunities in a rich leadership school culture. The first priority of Milestones Academy is the implementation of Leader in Me in the school.
Leader in Me is an international initiative developed by Franklin Covey based on Stephen Covey’s 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. This program is intended to create well rounded students and develop the whole person instead of focusing solely on academic achievement. Students are being motivated by being empowered to lead their own learning and encouraged to cultivate leadership skills like motivation, self-directed learning, self-confidence and working well with others. We believe it is important to impart the habits of effectiveness so as to enable the students to learn about the power of living according to responsibility, planning ahead, respect for others, team work and balance which are principles needed today than ever.

The 7 habits of highly effective people.
Milestones Academy believes it is very important to impart the habits of effectiveness on students from a young age moving forward. The 7 Habits are explained further below:

Habit 1

BE PROACTIVE: You are incharge and should focus on things you can control & take responsibility. Don't blame.

Habit 2

BEGIN WITH THE END IN MIND: Have a plan/vision. Picture your life and have a vision, then work towards it. Ask what you can offer the world and have a personal mission statement. Dream big don't hold yourself back.

Habit 3

PUT FIRST THINGS FIRST: Focus on what's important at that moment and manage time well. Work first and then play.

Habit 4

Think Win-win: Everyone can win and you don't have to crush each other. This builds up relationship.

Habit 5

SEEK FIRST TO UNDERSTAND, THEN TO BE UNDERSTOOD: Listen before you talk. Listen to someone so as to understand them.

Habit 6

SYNERGIZING:  Human interaction and team work or collaboration. Together is better and once united you come up with something better.

Habit 7

SHARPEN THE SAW: This is the habit of personal renewal and continuous improvement. Balance feels better. Always remember to take care of yourself. Exercise, learn, teach others, relationships, prayer etc.

We therefore urge parents to join the efforts of the school by ensuring that at home the children get to practice the skills of responsibility being taught at school such as:
1. Waking up on time.
2. Brushing teeth and taking bath.
3. Making bed.
4. Greeting parents and other adults in the house.
5. Help clean utensils.
6. Read a book or do assigned homework.
7. Play and exercise.
8. Taking responsibility to maintain good health by taking precautionary measures against COVID and other communicable diseases.
9. Help in washing clothes and arranging things in the house.
10. Parent/child discussions highly encouraged.
11. Use of Computer and watching TV to be supervised by the parent or elderly person.
12. Praying.

13. Sleeping on time.
